Cantabs made the trip to Woodbridge for the first return fixture of the season keen to repeat their victory of earlier in the season. Baring the later than usual arrival and shortened warm up all the players were chomping at the bit to play some rugby following the December freeze.
Luckily Cantabs lost the toss, which has become rather a good luck charm, are received the kick from Woodbridge. The opening 20 minutes was, predictably when taking into account to length of time since both teams played, full of small errors. What the game lacked in polished play it made up for in physicality with the Woodbridge pack keen to attempt to stamp their authority on the game with some aggressive and sometimes close to the line tackling. However they couldn't stop Sammi who on the half hour mark broke through the line to score under the posts. Minutes later a lovely chip from Dean allowed Chris Lovett to chase and make it to the line. Making the score 12-0. However Woodbridge almost scored an intercept try just before the break which woke up Cantabs to the fact the game was far from won.
The second half was a much better performance from Cantabs whop slowly put the tight and wide game they can play to good effect. The contestant pressure allowed scores from Francois, James and Perks (2 converted by Ali) to make the score 31-0. The remainder of the second half was played in Woodbridge half, and if it wasn't for a little try line fever the score line could have been higher. Woodbridge finally conceding defeat when they cleared their lines to allow the ref to blow the final whistle.
A good win by Cantabs, but with more to came and some better phases of play required for the game against Thurston on Sat.
